Trying to understand

The sunshine of your smile becomes my embrace-

Holding me warmly in the light of your face.

Gently you rock me until my fears subside

And remind me that you will always be at my side.

A soothing numbness for which I implore

Flows into the darkness when I open the door.

With a healer’s touch you reach out your hand

And help me on my path trying to understand.

Patiently you listen to my questioning why

And tenderly wipe the tears from each eye.

Knowing there are no words that will heal this pain

Wisely you sit quiet rather than speak in vain.

Maybe some day answers will come from above

Until then I still need your comfort and love
